The best car I've owned

Wow. When it comes to finding a practical, fun to drive, economical car you can't go wrong with the Volkswagen Golf/GTI. This car zooms around with plenty of power and is one of the few left on the road where you can get a third pedal! The cargo space is perfect too if you need it. Simply pop down the rear seats. I would buy this car again and again if I could. No issues, all smiles. This beats the Civic, Corolla, and Mazda 3 hatchbacks by a landslide. - 5.0
First GTI

I've owned this car for about 5 months. It's my daily commuter and I still find myself making up reasons to run an errand so I can get behind the wheel. I waited for the 2016 in order to enjoy Apple CarPlay and USB port. However, a software update was needed and after 4 months it's finally operational. That's been my only complaint in regards to reliability. This car will put you back in your seat, but in a very civilized manner. Freeway on ramps are my best friend. Passing is a breeze and the go-cart like feel during cornering is a pure joy. This is not the car for you if you want every bump and road seam to be sucked up because the car can be a little bumpy, but nothing close to punishing. If you truly enjoy being a "driver" than there is no other car on the road that is as well balanced and economical as the 2016 GTI. Some features I love are the backup camera, keyless entry/start, HID lamps, Apple CarPlay, versatility of the hatch, plenty of legroom for rear passengers, driver's assist (saved me more than once from a collision), cool interior lighting, bolstered seating, plenty of torque, superb braking and the overall handling during cornering. Some suggestions would be a power-hatch, foldable side mirrors with auto-tilt for backing up and a chirp instead of an annoying honk when you lock it with the remote (i.e. Audi). This car is just plain FUN! I read every review and watched every video I could find when researching. The EXPERTS who compare cars everyday for a living agreed this was THE BEST car on the market for 2015. For 2015: North American Car of the Year. Autoweek "Best of the Best" car. Automobile 2015 All-Star. Car & Driver 10 Best. Motor Trend 2015 Car of the Year. Yahoo Autos Car of the Year. NO car will give you absolutely everything your heart desires, but this hot hatch comes closest to anything I've driven in my 30 years. - 4.0
Great when not in the shop

Purchased as mid life crisis (my first car ever was 1986 GTI which I LOVED). Initial impression was that I had regained my youth! Car drives like a champ... fast, nimble... Then 4,200 miles in.... NAV system crashed. Took down rest of infotainment system... VW dealer diagnosed the problem... ordered part (took ten days) which turned out to be a whole new NAV system (so why ten days?)... Car has been in shop for 4 days now (1 to install new NAV, rest to figure out how to download the appropriate operating system and software). A VW representative is now involved but seems to be monitoring the situation more than speeding the process.So as of now no expected time frame for repair, no loaner, no explinations... The experience so far makes the car seem VERY expensive for what you get (particularly in terms of product support) and leaves me feeling very sad. Partly because the initial thrill was so close to how I remembered my 1986 GTI in my 20s only to be slapped with the reality of adulthood and the current sate of VW in the US.
