For many years, the Volkswagen Golf was the best-selling model for Volkswagen. The iconic VW Golf was unseated by the VW Polo (not available in the U.S.) in 2018. And for 2019, another Volkswagen model took the top spot.

Volkswagen Tiguan: Best-selling Volkswagen Model in 2019

Volkswagen recently announced that the Volkswagen Tiguan SUV was the best-selling model. In 2019, 910,926 units of the Tiguan were produced by Volkswagen. This is an increase from 120,00 units in 2007, which was the first year of production for the Tiguan. The Tiguan is now available in 80% of the countries in the world, with a Tiguan model rolling off the production line at a rate of one every 35 seconds. In Spring 2020, the Tiguan hit the milestone of six million total units produced. The Tiguan is also in the top three for the best-selling SUVs in the world.

The Tiguan debuted in 2007, with it quickly becoming the best-selling SUV in Germany. An updated version of the Tiguan arrived in 2011, with it hitting the 500,000 units produced milestone. The second-generation Tiguan debuted in 2016. It featured a more muscular design, a longer wheelbase, and new driver assistance technologies. In 2017, Volkswagen introduced a larger version of the Tiguan with a wheelbase that was extended by 4.3 inches, with the ability to seat up to seven passengers. In Europe, this model is called the Tiguan Allspace. In the United States, all of the Tiguan models have the longer wheelbase.
