Volkswagen Atlas Pickup Concept

If you’re a driver near Culver CIty who likes the sophistication and engineering of Volkswagen vehicles but has pickup utility needs, then there could soon be reason to celebrate. The Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak is a Volkswagen Pickup concept that recently debuted at the New York Auto Show, and a production model could be in the works and coming to your VW dealership in Santa Monica soon.

About the Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak

Based on the same design and platform as the Volkswagen Atlas — which already serves up impressive towing and performance — this Volkswagen Atlas pickup concept riffs on VW style to accommodate drivers in the American market who need truck capabilities. While the Atlas Tanoak is a concept model right now without a full list of features and specs, here are some of the important specs we have so far:

  • 214.1-inch length

  • 128.3-inch wheelbase

  • 50.4-inch width

  • 9.8-inch ground clearance

  • 3.6L V6 engine with 276 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque

As of this time, Volkswagen hasn’t released any official towing or payload numbers for the Atlas Tanoak, but we can likely expect it to meet or surpass the 5,000-pound towing capacity of the current VW Atlas SUV.

VW Atlas Family

It appears that Volkswagen in in the midst of developing plans for a full lineup of Volkswagen Atlas models. In addition to the current midsize SUV and VW Atlas Tanoak concept, there is also a 5-seater concept version of the Atlas called the Atlas Cross Sport, which is expected to be released for production sometime next year.

2018 VW Atlas and Tiguan Cars.com Car Seat Check Honor Roll Award

At Volkswagen Santa Monica, we’ve got a wide inventory of vehicles with distinct names in our Venice area showroom, but what do they mean? Volkswagen, itself, means “the people’s car” in German, and speaks to the popularity of this brand. Many of the current model names also have interesting, unique meanings:

  • Beetle: This iconic VW vehicle received its current name from its unique shape resembling the bug — although most don’t know it was originally called the Volkswagen Type 1.

  • CC: The recently retired VW CC is one of the more straightforward VW names, meaning “Comfort Coupe”.

  • Eos: This convertible is named after the Greek goddess for dawn, since the convertible offers unbeatable views of our mountainous skyline.

  • Golf: The Golf is named for the natural occurring Gulf Stream.

  • Jetta: This name translates to “jet stream,” hinting at its sporty performance.

  • Tiguan: This spacious SUV’s name comes from a combo of “tiger” and “leguan”, which means “iguana” in German.

  • Touareg: This VW SUV was named after the nomadic Tuareg people of the Saharan desert — encouraging you to go on adventures to new destinations.

How Often Should You Have Your Vehicle’s Oil Changed?

Wednesday, September 6th, 2017
Oil Change

Schedule Oil Change

Depending on your daily commutes, you can wait between 5,000 miles up to 10,000 miles to have your oil changed.

Automotive technology is moving forward, and the advancements in engineering have made changes to the timeline of needing your oil changed. Rather than sticking to the hard rule of getting your oil changed every 3,000 miles, you can now go longer as engines work more efficiently.

Sometimes, Oil Changes Can Wait

Like many people, you may have been taught that a vehicle’s oil needs to be changed every 3,000 miles. However, as engines are built to last longer and with better quality materials, it takes longer for oil to get dirty enough to need to be drained and swapped out. With better engine filtering and less chances of materials like lead sullying up your oil, the engine’s oil doesn’t get dirty enough to need to be changed.

If your daily commutes are longer and mostly spent on the highway, you can even lean toward the longer end of the spectrum, waiting to hit the 10,000 mile marker before having your oil changed. This is because long-distance, normal driving conditions warm the engine oil up to its optimum temperature and allow it to lubricate the engine efficiently. However, if most of your commutes are short, your engine isn’t necessarily heating up to the target temperature, and you may need to have your oil changed every 5,000 miles.

Car Knowledge that Helps You Save on Oil Change

It’s important to check your vehicle’s owner manual, as automakers have updated guides to reflect the longevity of oil expectancy with their own innovations in vehicle design. This information is much more accurate than the advertising of chain mechanics that encourage you to come in every 3 months or 3,000 miles — as they hope to see you more often to cash in on your frequent maintenance.

Schedule an Affordable Oil Change in Santa Monica Today

To alleviate the burden of this routine maintenance even more, you can have affordable oil changes in Santa Monica performed at Volkswagen Santa Monica. Learn why it’s okay to wait a little longer below, and then schedule a service appointment online or call us at 855-459-9651.

What the Critics Have to Say

It’s no surprise that year’s model arrives to high marks as it did last year, outshining popular competitors for its upscale interior and great value.

  • At Car and Driver, one critic noted, “A short drive along the California coast proved that the reasons to choose an e-Golf are the same as the reasons to choose any Golf: access to VW family values, including a rock-solid platform, excellent dynamics (improved, actually, with a lower center of gravity due to the battery mounting below the floor), and fastidious interior packaging.”

  • Green Car Reports praised this year’s model’s improvements for boosted battery life by saying, “That’s a 50-percent increase over the previous model’s 83 miles, and significantly increases the practicality of the e-Golf for drivers with longer commutes—or those who live in areas with winter weather.”

  • Over at Motortrend, another reviewer remarked on the likeness this electric car has to its popular cousin by writing, “It’s safe to say the e-Golf is one of the more natural driving EVs available today.”

Features and Specs of the 2017 Volkswagen e-Golf

Here’s just a few of the fantastic specs you’ll love about the new Volkswagen e-Golf when you get behind the wheel:

  • VW Car-Net App-Connect infotainment on a touchscreen display
