I.D. VIZZION Driving

Volkswagen envisions a future where toxic fossil fuels and human error are removed from your automotive journey, leaving behind only the pleasure of the voyage. The automaker plans to make that vision a reality with the I.D. Vizzion. The Vizzion is Volkswagen’s sleek, futuristic concept sedan that has neither a steering wheel nor pedals, controlled instead by a smart brain that can navigate the busy streets of Beverly Hills while you sit back and enjoy the ride in comfort and peace.

Total Autonomy

The Vizzion is the first of Volkswagen’s I.D. fleet designed to be entirely autonomous, featuring level 5 AI technology capable of mapping out your route while monitoring roadways, traffic, and pedestrian movement all without any input from the driver.

That isn’t to say the human element is entirely missing from the Vission, however. The sedan will feature a holographic user interface that allows drivers to input climate control, audio, and other information designed to make the ride more pleasurable, they just won’t have any control over the vehicle’s driving systems, which could be good news for drivers who grow weary in Santa Monica traffic, or those prone to distractions while driving.

Powerful Motors

The I.D. Vizzion concept is all electric, powered by two motors designed to deliver energy to the front and rear wheels independently. The rear motor – the vehicle’s most powerful – generates 201-hp while the rear power plant creates 101-hp for a total output of 302-hp. Volkswagen will power these electric motors with a 111-kWh lithium-ion battery pack mounted in the vehicle’s floor. This design provides more than adequate energy and also gives cabin occupants plenty of room to stretch out and relax – good news since the EPA expects the system to return a driving range of more than 300 miles.

Explore the Possibilities in a New Volkswagen

While it’s unlikely that we’ll see anything like the Vizzion in the US before the end of next decade, the architecture the I.D. line are to be built on will go into production in 2022, providing drivers a chance to get space-age handling in our modern times.
