40th Anniversary VW Golf GTI Clubsport USA Release Date

Not every model engineered and produced by Volkswagen makes it over to this side of the globe. Different markets get different vehicles. It’s business, and we get that. But that hasn’t kept us from getting excited over the potential for a 40th anniversary VW Golf GTI Clubsport USA release date.

What is the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport?

The Golf family is already packed with models, from the high performance Golf R to the all-electric e-Golf, so why, you might ask, is Volkswagen producing another Golf model? See, the Golf GTI is having a birthday. It is celebrating its 40th birthday, in fact, and the Golf GTI Clubsport is the Volkswagen way of celebrating 40 years of hot hatch thrill. Other special edition models also marked the 20th, 25th, 30th and 35th birthdays of the Golf GTI, so it has sort of become a tradition.

Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport US Performance Specs

Engine specs and performance details on the Golf GTI Clubsport were revealed in units that we may not be so familiar with here in the United States, but don’t fret, as we have done our best to convert the numbers for you. Producing 265 PS, or just over 261 horsepower by our estimates, the Golf GTI is capable of making the sprint from 0 to 62 mph in only 5.9 seconds. Furthermore, the model is equipped with an overboost function that allows drivers to boost power for about 10 seconds to 290 PS, or roughly 286 horsepower by our math.

The 40th anniversary Golf GTI model can come with a 6-speed manual gearbox for driving purists or an optional 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Either way, the Golf GTI Clubsport top speed comes out to 155 mph. The exterior of the vehicle features a new front bumper, rear diffuser, side skirts and multi-part roof spoiler.

2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport USA Release Date and Availability

We will let the photos of the GTI Clubsport speak for themselves when it comes to the many design changes and features. We know that what you really want to know is when you’ll be able to get behind the wheel. Well, we hate to be the bearer of bad news, so we will stay positive this time. Although no official announcement has been made on whether or not this 40th anniversary Golf GTI Clubsport will arrive in the United States, the fact that the model was announced on Volkswagen’s U.S. media site gives us just a glimmer of hope.
