Performance improvements made to the 2017 Volkswagen e-Golf have helped it to the top of AAA Green Car Guide’s Top Green Vehicle list in the compact car segment. There were 21 other cars reviewed in the same category, but the e-Golf received the highest score in 13 different qualities including slalom handling, visibility, EPA emissions and interior noise.

“The Volkswagen e-Golf SE is proof that affordable battery-electric efficiency and sporty driving don’t have to be mutually exclusive,” said Megan McKernan, manager of the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Automotive Research Center. “The e-Golf’s ride quality, handling and quiet interior helped earn it a Top Green Vehicle Award in its category of the AAA Green Car Guide.”

The AAA Green Car Guide is produced annually by the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Automotive Research Center. This group reviews and ranks electric, hybrid, alternative fuel, fuel efficient and low emitting gasoline-powered vehicles by a number of qualified characteristics such as fuel economy, emissions, performance and overall comfort. This guide gives drivers information they need about green vehicles and helps them out in the car-buying process.

What’s new for the 2017 Volkswagen e-Golf?

Although the 2017 VW e-Golf offers a lot of the same key features, it comes with improved performance capabilities that give it a boost above the competition. It’s equipped with a new lithium-ion battery that offers an increased energy capacity of 35.8 kWh compared to 24.2 kWh from the 2016 model. This, in turn, helped to improve the EPA-estimated total range of 83 miles to 125 miles on one single charge.

There is a 7.2 kW on-board charger that’s standard on both the SE and SEL Premium trims. This allows drivers to have a full charge in less than six hours at a 240V charging station. We’re going to highlight fuel economy improvements below:
